Description

My Métis granny told me many stories of her childhood, and one of them was how her family (from the Interlake area of Manitoba) preserved food. Her parents were excellent providers, and she often told me how her family didn't suffer during the great depression.

Her dad was a hunter, hunting guide, fisherman, and farmerHer mother gardened, preserved food, looked after the house and children, and also worked! Canning (and eating) moose meat was a memory she was fond of. My family has canned moose in our pantry today, keeping this tradition alive.

The best thing about hunting is being out on the land, quietly enjoying nature, the time with family, and feeling gratitude for all the earth gives us... which is everything that is living.
